Kiambu Constituency is set to usher in a new wave of youth empowerment as Member of Parliament (MP) Machua Waithaka unveiled a free digital skills programme targeting young residents. The initiative, anchored at the Ndumberi Jitume ICT Hub, is designed to equip learners with practical competencies needed to thrive in an economy increasingly defined by technology.
Waithaka announced that a fresh cohort of trainees will begin classes on Monday, August 10, 2026, with registration already open. The programme will cover some of the fastest‑growing areas of the digital economy, including artificial intelligence (AI), cyber security, digital marketing, academic writing, data entry, and data analysis.
The MP emphasised that the training is offered free of charge to eligible youth who are voters and residents of Kiambu Constituency. He urged young people to seize the opportunity instead of remaining idle at home, noting that digital skills are no longer optional but essential for employment, entrepreneurship, and accessing opportunities both locally and globally.
“Today’s digital world requires skills that are no longer optional. They are essential for employment, entrepreneurship and accessing opportunities both locally and globally,” Waithaka said.
The ICT hub has already hosted sessions on trading and stock market literacy, underscoring the growing demand for financial and digital knowledge among the youth. Waithaka said the constituency is committed to creating opportunities that will enable young people to acquire practical skills and compete in a labour market where technology is reshaping traditional jobs and creating new forms of work.

Persistent youth unemployment remains one of Kenya’s biggest challenges, with thousands of young people entering the labour market each year with limited access to formal jobs. Employers increasingly demand digital competencies, making training in areas such as AI, cyber security, and data analysis critical for young people seeking relevance in the changing job market.
Waithaka appealed to parents across Kiambu to encourage their children who have completed Form Four to enrol at the Ndumberi Jitume ICT Hub. He stressed that the programme could provide practical skills that prepare learners for the modern economy and empower them to compete on the global stage.
“I urge all parents across Kiambu Constituency not to allow their sons and daughters who have completed Form Four to remain idle at home. Enrol them at the Ndumberi Jitume ICT Hub, where they will acquire valuable digital skills that will prepare them for the modern job market and empower them to compete on the global stage,” he said.
Beyond conventional employment, the programme is expected to expose young people to freelancing, digital entrepreneurship, and remote work opportunities, enabling them to tap into the global digital marketplace. Waithaka described the initiative as part of his wider grassroots empowerment agenda, anchored on his slogan “Yangu Ni Kazi Tu.”

For many young Kenyans, the challenge is no longer simply finding a job but acquiring the skills demanded by a labour market transformed by artificial intelligence, automation, and digital platforms. Waithaka’s initiative seeks to position Kiambu youth to take advantage of that shift by giving them access to training that would otherwise be beyond the reach of many unemployed and low‑income households.
“Young people must be equipped with the right skills to compete and succeed in today’s economy,” Waithaka said, urging eligible residents to register and take advantage of the opportunity.
