President William Ruto has pledged Ksh550 million for the construction of student hostels at Kaimosi Friends University and an additional Ksh50 million to support the establishment of a peace centre.
Speaking on Monday, August 3, while hosting members of the Friends Church at State House, Nairobi, the President said the funding forms part of the government’s broader agenda to improve infrastructure and accelerate development projects across the country.
Ruto said his administration had considered requests submitted by the university’s leadership, including those presented by Vice Chancellor Professor Stephen Agutu, adding that funds for the hostel project had already been set aside.
“I have recorded all you requested me here at the university, and I have heard from the vice chancellor. I want to assure you, Vice Chancellor, we have allocated Ksh550 million for the construction of hostels in Kaimosi,” said the President.

He said the allocation was an initial commitment, adding that the government would consider additional funding based on the university’s needs and the project’s progress.
The President also pledged support for the construction of a peace centre after the church leadership presented the proposal.

“So Mr Stephen, I will give you Ksh50 million to start the project. Just start; I will support you along the way. But for now, I will give you a cheque of Ksh50 million to start the project,” said the President.
Ruto said the initiative underscores the importance of promoting peace and unity, noting that such investments play a key role in strengthening social cohesion.
