I am One Josephine, a teacher and the matron of Enzai 4-K Club. I was greatly honoured to be invited by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC), Mukaa Sub-County, to the World Teachers’ Day celebration held at Sultan Hamud Comprehensive School.

The celebration became a very special moment in my teaching journey because I was recognised for my contribution towards the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This recognition made me feel proud and encouraged me to continue serving my learners and community through education, agriculture and environmental conservation.

Through Enzai 4-K Club, I have been encouraging learners to appreciate agriculture, food production, environmental conservation and sustainable development. We engage in practical activities that help learners understand that agriculture can provide food while also caring for our environment.

Receiving this recognition reminded me that the work a teacher does every day can make a difference. What may begin as a small school project can grow into something that benefits learners, families and the wider community.

During the celebration, I also had the opportunity to plant a tree. For me, planting that tree was a meaningful symbol of sustainability. A tree needs care and patience to grow, just as learners need guidance, encouragement and opportunities to develop their skills.

Support strengthens commitment

I sincerely thank the Teachers Service Commission, Mukaa Sub-County, for inviting me and recognising my contribution to sustainable development. I am grateful for the encouragement and support that have strengthened my commitment as a teacher.

I also sincerely thank the 4-K Club Programme and the Ministry of Agriculture for motivating us to keep the fire burning. Their guidance and encouragement have helped us to continue involving learners in practical agriculture and environmental activities.

This recognition has given me renewed energy to continue promoting the Sustainable Development Goals through teaching, agriculture and environmental conservation. I am proud of the work we are doing at Enzai 4-K Club, and I look forward to doing even more.
