Kibwezi West Member of Parliament, MP Mwengi Mutuse has handed over a complete semi-olympic swimming pool to Kalulini High School, a first of its kind to be done by a public school in Makueni County and the larger Eastern Region.
This has set the school to establish itself as a leader in Arts and Sports Science Pathway in the region.
Being one of the biggest and oldest schools in Makueni County, the school has now cut a niche in swimming which will not only equip learners with important life skills but also serve as a pathway to a potential income generating career.
MP Mwengi Mutuse who commissioned the project on Monday was upbeat that the new swimming infrastructure will now place the school at par with leading schools in other regions.
“Today I handed over to Kalulini High School a semi-olympic swimming pool that will be used by the school and neighboring ones as a teaching aid and for extra-curricular activities,” said Mutuse.

He thanked the previous MP Dr. Patrick Musimba who initiated the project and the School fraternity for their support.
“I thank my predecessor, Dr. Patrick Musimba, who started this project. I have been able to finish the project and cut costs by Ksh9 million through an innovative labor-based implementation model,” said Mutuse.
The MP pledged to lift Kalulini Boys to national status while making education a number one priority for the people of Kibwezi West.
“Congratulations Mheshimiwa, Kalulini is a school I am proud of. It deserves to be elevated to the next level. The swimming pool will enable it to offer the Arts and Sports Science Pathway, enriching its curriculum,” an Alumnus of the school said while congratulating the MP for enabling the school to achieve the milestone.

A similar project at Machakos School, a leading National School in the region is now at inception stage.
Retired Justice Philip Waki, an Alumnus of Machakos School recently led a fundraiser which generated Ksh8 Million towards the swimming pool project.
The County Government of Machakos is in the process of excavating the Swimming pool and constructing a borehole. It has also provided a technical team to assist in actualization of the project.
