Learners at Bondo Nyironge Senior School in Migori County have received a school bus that had been promised by William Ruto during his development tour of Suna West Constituency earlier this year.
The 51-seater bus was officially handed over to the institution by area MP Peter Masara during a colourful ceremony attended by students, parents, teachers, and local leaders.
The development is expected to ease transportation challenges the school has been facing and enhance participation in academic and co-curricular activities such as science symposiums, sports competitions, and educational field trips.
Speaking during the handover, Masara said the delivery of the bus fulfilled a presidential promise made during an earlier visit, noting that it reflected the government’s commitment to improving education infrastructure across the country.
“The community around this school requested a bus during the President’s tour, and today the President has fulfilled his promise. This demonstrates the government’s commitment to improving education standards and supporting our learners,” said Masara.
The MP noted that the new bus marks the seventh school bus delivered to secondary schools in Suna West Constituency since 2017, saying the initiative underscores continued investment in education support infrastructure within the region.
He added that improving school transport systems is essential in ensuring learners are exposed to broader academic opportunities beyond the classroom, including competitions and educational tours that enhance learning outcomes.
Masara also commended ongoing education reforms under the current administration, particularly the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC), which he described as a practical system designed to equip learners with relevant skills for the modern job market.
According to the legislator, effective implementation of CBC requires continued investment in infrastructure, teaching resources, and co-curricular support systems to ensure learners fully benefit from the curriculum’s objectives.
However, he raised concerns over low remuneration for Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) teachers in some counties, noting that many continue to earn less than Sh10,000 per month despite playing a critical role in shaping foundational learning.
He urged county governments and relevant education authorities to comply with labour regulations and improve pay structures for ECDE teachers to boost morale and enhance service delivery in early learning institutions.
School Principal Mildred Otieno welcomed the donation, saying the bus would significantly reduce operational costs previously incurred through hiring transport for students participating in external activities.
“We have been spending a lot of money hiring buses to transport learners for sports and science competitions. This bus will help us redirect those funds to other educational programmes within the school,” said Otieno.
She noted that the availability of the bus would also improve efficiency in planning school activities, reduce delays caused by transport challenges, and increase student participation in academic and co-curricular events.
Otieno added that the new transport facility would boost morale among learners and strengthen the school’s reputation in inter-school competitions and academic forums.
She further praised the MP for supporting multiple development projects within the school, including infrastructure expansion.
“Apart from this bus, the Member of Parliament has also supported the construction of important infrastructure in our school, including a modern laboratory and a new administration block,” she said.
Education stakeholders present at the ceremony said the donation would go a long way in strengthening learner participation in co-curricular activities, which are increasingly recognised as a key component of holistic education.
They noted that improved transport infrastructure is critical in rural schools where distance and cost often limit participation in external academic and sporting events.
In separate remarks, Masara reaffirmed his commitment to supporting development projects in the constituency and expressed support for President Ruto’s 2027 re-election bid, saying continued leadership would ensure sustained development across sectors, including education.
Speaking elsewhere in the constituency, the Orange Democratic Movement legislator said political collaboration remains important in fostering national unity and development.

He added that partnerships among leaders would help strengthen democratic gains and preserve the political legacy of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, whom he described as a key figure in Kenya’s democratic progress.
The school community has since welcomed the new bus as a transformative asset expected to improve learning experiences, expand opportunities for learners, and strengthen the institution’s participation in regional academic and sporting events.
