Maseno University appoints Prof. Erick Nyambedha as acting VC after Nyabundi’s term ends

Maseno University has announced the appointment of Prof. Erick O. Nyambedha as Acting Vice-Chancellor, following the completion of Prof. Julius Nyabundi’s tenure.

In a message to staff and students, the institution’s Director of Public Relations, Dr. Owen McOnyangio, confirmed the transition, noting that Prof. Nyambedha will steer the university’s academic, financial, and strategic direction in the interim.

Prof. Nyambedha, a seasoned anthropologist with more than 20 years of experience, has held several leadership roles within Maseno.

He previously served as Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Academic and Student Affairs from February 2025 and later oversaw the university’s operations in February 2026. His career also includes serving as Director of Quality Assurance and Performance Management, as well as Director of Student Affairs.

Academically, Nyambedha earned his BA and MA degrees from the University of Nairobi before pursuing a PhD in Anthropology at the University of Copenhagen in Denmark. His scholarly work has extended into critical areas of public health, including research on COVID-19, Universal Health Coverage (UHC), and vaccine acceptance.

The institution expressed confidence that Prof. Nyambedha’s expertise will guide Maseno through its next phase of growth and innovation.
