Maranda high school in Siaya County has been awarded the Western region trophy for its earnest contribution and participation in the annual “feed-a-child charity walk” for the year 2021.
The charitable walk is usually organized by orphans and street children society of Kenya and is geared towards offering sponsorship to orphans and street children from across the country.
Teachers and students from the school took part in this year’s annual charity walk which took place over the weekend in which they trekked from the school to Bondo town and back covering a distance of 12 kilometers.
The exercise which was spiced up by the school band was led by the society’s coordinators and the head of guiding and counseling department at the school.
The western region coordinator of the society Mr. Richard Nyangweso applauded Maranda School for being one of the greatest partners and contributors in the charity walk.
He noted that the school which had always taken part in the walk year in year out will continue winning awards in appreciation of their immense contribution.
“As a society we are proud and appreciative of Maranda School for being at the forefront in contribution and participation in this program,” said Nyangweso.
Lennis Bahati Matayo a student at the institution was the highest contributor to the initiative this year after he contributed a total Sh8, 020 towards the program and was awarded a mountain bike.
Mr. Moses Nduri who is the head of guiding and counseling department in the schools coordinated the team of participants from the school which included Mr. Adongo Odongo, Ms. Beryl Odongo and Ms. Vivian Otieno who are teachers at the institution, one hundred and sixty students plus St. Johns ambulance cadets.
