The Etago Law Courts yesterday sentenced a middle-aged man to prison after finding him guilty of defiling a 16-year-old girl.

Duke Ombogo was charged with defiling a minor, contrary to Section 8(1) as read with Section 8(3) of the Sexual Offences Act.

The court heard that between January 7-8 of this year, the accused was involved in carnal knowledge with the minor at Nyaramba village in Nyamarambe Division.

Before the Resident Magistrate Violate Moguche, the minor attested how she was forced into the sexual offence act that hurt her private parts, as it was according to the hospital report where she was admitted after the assault.

“He dumped me in the thicket as he molested me several times and threatened to kill me if I screamed,” she testified.

“After listening and analysing different sources of the evidence adduced here, the court has found the accused guilty of child defilement and should serve a penalty of 16 years in prison,” said the magistrate.

Moguche, however, gave the accused 14 days to appeal against the charges if he felt dissatisfied.
