Makueni to sponsor 90 students from needy families

Makueni Minister for Education, Sports and ICT Dr. Naomi Makau has said the County government will sponsor 90 bright and needy children from Form One to University level.

Speaking at her Wote office, Makau added that the 90 will come from the 30 wards in Makueni where each ward will produce three needy pupils.

“The minimum marks will be 375. We realised that many children pass at primary level and due to poverty some end up in village schools or rather the schools they are not supposed to join. We have always checked this and made sure we sponsor such pupils,” Makau.

She pointed out that the county does that as a way of giving back to the community but advised that the parents are supposed to shop for the sponsored child.

“Sometimes we chip in, in case a parent cannot afford the shopping or pocket money,” She added.

The county is also partnering with Family Bank, Equity, KCB and Cooperative Bank.

Makau called upon parents to apply for bursaries saying the county will give up to a total of Sh30 million for the year 2020/2021.

She applauded the 10 wards which prioritized bursaries and gave additional money to the county.
