Makueni principals build modern house for elderly woman living in dilapidated shelter

Makueni KESSHA chairman Johnstone Ndivo leads efforts to construct a house for a vulnerable elderly woman and her grandchildren in Kasikeu Ward.

Makueni KESSHA chairman Johnstone Ndivo has called upon leaders and good Samaritans to extend a helping hand to vulnerable school-going children and society in general.

Speaking during the supervision of a modern house that they, as the Makueni County Secondary School Heads Association (KESSHA), are constructing for an elderly woman in Kasikeu Ward, Kilome Constituency, Ndivo said they were touched by how the elderly woman, who lives with a special adult man and her school-going grandchildren, is struggling to make ends meet in a dilapidated house.

“The house is due for completion. The woman was sleeping outside with her grandchildren; it is a relief to touch their hearts. Let us all join and make sure no one suffers extremely within our vicinity when we are in a position to help,” said Ndivo.

He thanked the principals for their contributions, adding that the elderly woman and her grandchildren now have shelter pending completion.

“Considering the terrain and the fact that it is the rainy season, we decided to extend our helping hand and make their lives better by providing shelter,” Ndivo said.

Ndivo called upon good Samaritans and other leaders, organisations, and associations, including one community-based organisation, “The Kilome We Want,” where he is a member, to chip in and support the vulnerable children living with the elderly woman in order to improve their lives.

At the same time, he reminded parents to prepare their children fully as schools are opening next week. He urged school heads to bear with parents during the first week in terms of fees by not sending learners home.

He also called upon the government to ensure that capitation funds are in school accounts before schools open for the smooth running of institutions.
