KUPPET Kisii Branch has threatened to paralyse learning in the county when schools reopen for the second term unless the government clears the unpaid dues owed to teachers who manned the 2025 national examinations.
Newly elected Branch Executive Secretary Abel Kinyanchui issued the warning on Friday after calling a press conference at People’s Park in Kisii town on Monday, April 27, 2026.
In a letter seen by Education News, Kinyanchui invited all union members to attend the briefing, which will address delays in payment of allowances for 2025 KNEC markers, supervisors, invigilators, and centre managers.
“Our members executed their national duty with diligence, yet four months later, KNEC has not paid them a shilling. Teachers cannot feed their families on patriotism,” Kinyanchui said.
He stated that examiners and other exam officials from Kisii County are owed millions of shillings in allowances. Kinyanchui said the union had written several reminders to the Ministry of Education and KNEC but received no response.
“If the government does not settle these dues before schools reopen next week, we will mobilise our members to down their tools. There will be no teaching until teachers are paid,” he warned.
Beyond the KNEC arrears, Kinyanchui listed other grievances, including stalled teacher promotions, an inefficient medical scheme, and delayed capitation to schools.

The press conference will be held on Monday at 10:00 a.m. at People’s Park. Kinyanchui asked all post-primary teachers in the county to attend.
