Maasai Mara varsity ushers in new era as council members take oath of office

  • Maasai Mara University has sworn in a new team of council members, setting the stage for what officials describe as a new chapter of visionary and collaborative leadership at the Narok based institution.
  • The oath was administered by the university’s Chief Legal Officer, Mercylene Njoroge, alongside Senior Legal Officer Alfred Nyabochwa.

Maasai Mara University has sworn in a new team of council members, setting the stage for what officials describe as a new chapter of visionary and collaborative leadership at the Narok based institution.

Prof. Geoffrey Ole Maloiy took the oath of office as the new Chairperson of the University Council, a position he will hold for a three year term. He succeeds Dr. Kennedy Ole Kerei, whose service to the university was recognized during the ceremony.

Also sworn in; were Dr. Susan Chebet, Elizabeth Ayoo, Dickson Malanga Shikanga, Agnes Busienei and Millicent Leila Lenguris. Vice Chancellor Prof. Peninah Aloo Obudho was also sworn in and will serve as the Council’s Secretary.

The oath was administered by the university’s Chief Legal Officer, Mercylene Njoroge, alongside Senior Legal Officer Alfred Nyabochwa.

The Council is the university’s supreme governing organ. It is expected to provide strategic oversight and policy direction aimed at strengthening institutional governance, enhancing service delivery and promoting partnerships that advance teaching, research, innovation and community engagement.

University officials said the new team is expected to steer Maasai Mara University toward its strategic objectives and reinforce its standing as a leading centre of academic excellence and innovation.

The university extended congratulations to the newly sworn in members and wished them success in guiding the institution toward sustainable growth.

The appointments were made through a Gazette notice issued in late June by the Ministry of Education (MoE), which also affected councils at seven other public universities including Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT), Pwani University and Kisii University.
