Butere Boys High School have been disqualified from the 2026 Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) Western Region Games after investigations established that the school fielded two ineligible players during the Kakamega County football championship.
The decision follows a complaint lodged by Kakamega School, which challenged the eligibility of some players who featured for Butere Boys during the county football competition.
The complaint prompted the Kakamega County Director of Education to initiate investigations to determine whether the players met the requirements set out under the KSSSA Constitution and the Basic Education Act, 2013.
According to an official letter dated July 2, 2026, from the County Director of Education, the investigations were conducted under Article 14(f) of the KSSSA Constitution and Section 66(3)(a) and (c) of the Basic Education Act.

During the inquiry, Butere Boys were accorded an opportunity to respond to the allegations and present their case before a final verdict was reached.
The investigations established that two players, identified as Admission No. 10753 and Admission No. 10250, were ineligible to participate in the competition.
Education officials said that the school’s football team had violated Article 14(e) of the KSSSA Constitution, which governs player eligibility in school sports.
