Lake Bogoria Girls High school has emerged overall winner of the 2022/23 Climate Innovation Challenge (CIC) for their exceptional innovation in the Outstanding International Entry.
The school bagged the elusive award which was contested by 317 projects from 7 different countries and 15 states across United States of America (USA).
The school was feted for its role in conserving the Lake Bogoria Ecosystem through planting of trees and fighting the charcoal burning menace in their March 2023 submission.
While receiving the award announced today through a showcase aired live on Climate Advocacy Voices Unidas (CAVU) channel based in Santa Fe, New Mexico State, the school Principal Mrs Catherine Yego and team leaders led by Mr. Cheruiyot Kibet and Fredrick Kipruto lauded the institution for winning the coveted award.
The recognition of the school as trailblazers in conservation now allows the institution to gain donor funding from organizations to help them implement their projects in neighboring communities and exchange programmes across the world.
Mochongoi Ward Member of County Assembly (MCA) Kipruto Kimosop congratulated the school for topping the world on innovations geared to conserve environment and curb climate change, now considered a global catastrophe.
Lake Bogoria General Manager Lydia Dentewo who participated in a tree planting exercise at the school said that they are in full support of mitigating adverse effects of climate change.
The Climate Innovate Challenge aims at tracing innovative and disruptive technology solutions for climate change around the world.
Kenya is among parties of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP27) which was convened in the Egyptian coastal city of Sharm el –Sheikh to establish and operationalize a loss and damage fund to mitigate reeling impacts brought by adverse effects of climate change.
