KUPPET threatens to withdraw its members from the bandit prone areas of Samburu

KUPPET threatens to tell teachers to down their tools if the government will not act firmly on insecurity issues. The Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) Samburu County branch says security issues should be addressed by government ones and for all.

KUPPET Samburu Executive Secretary William Lengoyiap told Education News recently that the Interior Cabinet Secretary Prof. Kithure Kindiki must stop issuing empty threats but should start acting immediately on the security issues affecting the area.

“In Samburu, schools around Longewan, Loosuk, Lolmolog, Pura, Malaso will close if the situation continues as it is. We will not wait until we lose any colleague’s life in order to act. The national government must now put their acts together or we explode,” said Lengoyiap.

He stated that insecurity is becoming a menace in Samburu West with learning being disrupted in Loosuk, Malaso, Longewuan, Lolmolog and Lorrok Mixed Secondary Schools with students, parents and teachers living in fear.

“We will down our tools those of us teaching along that belt. We have encountered horror moments here for the past moments now. Prof. Kindiki must stop issuing empty threats In Samburu West Constituency. Enough is enough!” said Lengoyiap.

He added that he will not hesitate to give his advice to teachers in the disturbed areas to flee considering that the area is under curfew and people have been told to vacate.

“If the situation persists i will tell teachers to flee for their lives. If they feel they are not properly secured, i have advised them to report to the TSC and MoE directors and alert me as soon as possible,” he said.
