Learners at Friends Special School-Kaimosi in Vihiga County are set to benefit from improved learning and boarding facilities following the handover of a Ksh15 million infrastructure project on Friday, September 11, 2026, aimed at creating a safer and more conducive environment for education.
The project includes a new dormitory with a capacity of 150 learners, additional classrooms and improved water infrastructure to support the school’s learning and boarding needs. The new dormitory is expected to ease pressure on existing accommodation facilities while providing learners with a safer place to stay within the school compound, and the additional classrooms will provide more space for teaching and learning, potentially improving the school’s ability to accommodate learners and support their educational needs.

The handover was attended by Principal Secretary for Co-operatives Patrick Kilemi, who joined the community in witnessing the completion of the infrastructure investment. Kilemi acknowledged Safaricom PLC for supporting the project through its sustainability and shared value initiatives, specifically recognising Karen Khayanje Basiye, Safaricom Director of Sustainability and Shared Value, for supporting the investment, and Evans Mwagwe Basiye, the Project Champion, for his commitment towards the completion of the project.
Kilemi said the project demonstrates the benefits of collaboration between government, the private sector and communities in investing in education, noting that such partnerships can help improve learning environments and provide children with better opportunities to pursue education and build a stronger future.
