The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has announced the reopening of the Competency-Based Assessment (CBA) portal for the upload of Grade 4 and Grade 5 School-Based Assessment (SBA) scores, following numerous requests from schools that had not fully completed the submission process.
In a notice issued to heads of institutions, KNEC noted that after the closure of the initial upload window, it had been established that some schools either partially uploaded learners’ scores or failed to submit them entirely.
The council has therefore granted an additional two-week period effective from the date of the notice to allow affected institutions to finalize the process.
Headteachers have been urged to take advantage of the extension to ensure that all pending learner scores are uploaded and any gaps in the assessment data are corrected before the portal closes again.
KNEC emphasized that failure to comply within the extended deadline may attract penalties as per the assessment guidelines.

The Grade 4 and Grade 5 SBA scores form part of the Competency-Based Education (CBE) assessment framework, which contributes to learners’ overall evaluation ahead of progression to higher levels of learning.
The council has repeatedly warned that accurate and timely submission of assessment data is critical for smooth processing of learner records.
KNEC has not indicated any further extension beyond the two-week window, urging schools to treat the directive with urgency to avoid disruptions in the national assessment timeline.
