Motorists have been asked to be careful on the road after a Kisii University student died following an accident along the Bobaracho–Keroka road yesterday.
Preliminary investigations show that the accident involved a truck, a pickup, and a boda boda operator. The crash occurred at Bobaracho on Thursday, 8 May 2026, along the busy Kisii–Keroka highway. According to eyewitnesses, the student was riding on a boda boda when the collision happened. A good Samaritan rushed him to the hospital, but he died shortly after arrival while doctors were attending to him.
His colleagues have identified him as Steve Omambia, a fourth-year student at Kisii University. Omambia was preparing for his teaching practice attachment at the time of his demise. The news has left fellow students and lecturers in shock, with many describing him as hardworking and focused on completing his education degree.
Police in Kisii have started a full investigation to establish the exact cause of the accident. Officers from Kisii Central Traffic Base visited the scene on Thursday evening to record statements, take measurements, and inspect the vehicles involved. The truck and the pickup have been towed to Kisii Police Station for mechanical inspection. The boda boda operator is also receiving treatment and is expected to help police piece together what happened.
The Bobaracho–Daraja Moja–Keroka stretch has been flagged as a black spot in the past. Residents have raised concerns over speeding, poor signage, and heavy vehicles sharing the narrow road with students and pedestrians. Leaders and traffic officers are now renewing calls for motorists to slow down, avoid dangerous overtaking, and ensure their vehicles are roadworthy, especially along the hilly sections near Bobaracho.
