Parents in Magenche Ward, Kisii County, have condemned politicians and their supporters for using political differences to undermine rivals, saying such actions hinder development efforts in the region.
Speaking during a fundraising event at Nyamecheo Comprehensive School, parents urged leaders to set aside political rivalries and work together for the benefit of the community rather than fueling hostility ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Their concerns were sparked by an incident involving the Chairman of Kenya Trade and Commodities, Mainga Echate, who was reportedly prevented from addressing the gathering when he rose to make a donation.
A group of youth disrupted his attempt to contribute, accusing him of positioning himself to challenge the area Member of Parliament in the 2027 elections.
The situation escalated, forcing police officers to intervene and shield Echate from the irate youth, who residents alleged had been mobilized to heckle him.

The fundraiser, which sought to raise funds for the construction of the school’s administration block, was presided over by former Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu. More than Ksh3 million was raised during the event.
Bomachoge Borabu MP Obadiah Barongo also presented a cheque worth Ksh3 million from the National Government Constituencies Development Fund (NG-CDF) to support the project.
The legislator reaffirmed his commitment to improving educational infrastructure across the constituency, noting that quality facilities are essential for enhancing learning outcomes.
Education stakeholders at the event emphasized that adequate infrastructure plays a critical role in improving academic standards. They noted that a functional administration block enhances planning, record management, and coordination of school activities, while proper learning facilities create a conducive environment for both students and teachers.
Residents further appealed to leaders across the political divide to ensure that political competition does not interfere with development initiatives. They called for unity and cooperation to guarantee better learning conditions for students in Magenche Ward and the wider Bomachoge Borabu constituency.
