Bomachoge Borabu Constituency will purchase buses for each of its 38 secondary schools, starting with Riokindo Girls and Magenge Mixed Secondary Schools in Bokimonge and Bombaba wards next term.
The announcement was made by area MP Obadiah Barongo during a consultative meeting with all secondary school principals held at Mokubo Secondary School on Tuesday.
Barongo expressed satisfaction with the work principals are doing as managers of their institutions.
“I don’t want to come to your schools to solve cases of chronic absence of principals. I understand that if you miss for one day there must be a reason. You are professionals, do your work with decorum,” he said.
Infrastructure funding challenges
The MP noted that school infrastructure was becoming a growing challenge in the area due to a shortage of funds from the National Treasury and irregular remittance of funds to constituencies.
He urged principals to be patient with his office as he works to address the issue.
Barongo also promised to remit KSh 4.6 million to Rianyanchabera Secondary School, which is in urgent need of funds for the construction of modern classrooms.
He asked the Kenyenya Sub-County Director of Education to review the school’s construction priorities and submit a report to his office.
Warning over school arson
Addressing recent cases of arson in some schools, the MP issued a stern warning to negligent principals.
He threatened to transfer heads of institutions who fail to manage their schools responsibly, putting Magena Boys Secondary School, Ekerubo CCF, and Omobera Comprehensive School on notice over what he described as a notorious record of recurring arson attacks.
“How can a school be torched many times without the head of the institution mobilizing staff and the School Management Committee to stop the menace, and yet it becomes hard to inform the higher authorities?” he asked.
Parents urged to support discipline
Kenyenya Sub-County Director of Education Gladys Zachary asked parents to stay close to their children and help maintain discipline by ensuring they adhere to school rules.

She urged principals and their deputies to reside within their schools to create a family-like environment where problems can be addressed quickly.
According to her, such presence is essential if arson is to be controlled in learning institutions.
