Kisii businessman wants principals whose schools show consistent KCSE improvement rewarded

A businessman from South Mugirango, Kisii County has called on the government to recognize and reward principals whose schools show consistent improvement in national examination results.

Speaking during Ikoba Secondary School’s Prize Giving Day in Etago Sub County, Masasi Obara emphasized that this move will motivate teachers and create a competitive spirit, ultimately driving educational development.

“Motivating teachers and learners can have a significant impact on academic performance. Recognition can boost morale, encouraging teachers to work harder and inspiring learners to aim higher. It can also foster healthy competition among schools, driving improvement and innovation in education.” He said

He added that rewarded efforts could lead to better resources, training, and support for teachers and students. Additionally, recognition can attract quality educators and retain top talent in schools, fostering a positive and supportive learning environment.

“By acknowledging and rewarding excellence, the government can create a ripple effect, benefiting the entire education system.” Obara noted

Obara’s suggestion aims to drive educational excellence in Kisii County and beyond, and it’s certainly a proposal worth considering.

The school’s principal Robert Kerindo said the institution has shown constant improvement in the examinations performance and attributed it to collaboration from parents and teachers, discipline among learners.

The principal however raised alarm over the problems the school is facing, ranging from water shortage and lack of enough science laboratories.

He said that during the 2025 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education KCSE exams, the school registered 91 students; 63 scored grade C+ and above to enable get direct entry marks to University.

During the well-attended occasion, students who posted impressive results were rewarded with various presents ranging from laptops, Suitcases and mobile phones.
