Lafithi Primary School in Magarini Sub-county has received a major infrastructure boost after well-wishers stepped in to improve the infrastructural condition of the school.
Head teacher Elizabeth Jumwa said the institution, which has a pupil population of 113, has been grappling with various challenges including a shortage of classrooms, high dropout rates linked to hunger, long distances walked by pupils, and the infestation of wild animals in the area.
According to Jumwa, Bandari Savings and Credit Cooperative Society (Sacco) has donated Sh300,000 towards the construction of four classrooms at the school, with Sacco members also pledging to buy school uniforms, books and shoes for the pupils.
“I have received Sh300,000 from Bandari Sacco that will be used to start construction of four classrooms in the school. The members have also committed to buy school uniforms, books, and shoes for the 113 pupils,” she said.
Jumwa noted that school dropout cases had been on the rise due to risks in the area, including poor infrastructure, the long distances children walk to school, and the presence of wild animals, including lions, along dangerous terrain. She appealed to other well-wishers to help construct a boarding facility within the school.
“Many children walk long distances to school, and they have to traverse dangerous terrains which are infested by wild animals including lions, while some stay away because of hunger. If we can get someone to construct a dormitory for us, we can retain most of these children in school,” she said.

Bandari Sacco Chairman Moses Sirgoi said the Sacco would walk with the school to ensure it gets the infrastructural development needed to improve enrolment and boost the security of pupils.
“The school is not in good shape, and as Bandari Sacco, through our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), we have come to check the learning environment, which we have found is not good. We are going to help build classrooms, and we have given a cheque of Sh300,000 to begin the work. We’ve committed ourselves to building the school,” he said.
Sirgoi, who was accompanied by at least 150 delegates during the visit, urged individual Sacco members to also contribute at a personal level to ensure the school’s uplift is completed on time.
