Kibwezi school parents hold demo against headmaster

Parents at Kyaani Secondary School in Kibwezi sub-county, Makueni, have held a peaceful demonstration to protest what they say is poor leadership by the school head Simon Mwaura.

The parents said the school had been performing poorly in examinations since the headmaster took over two years ago.

They also accused him of mistreating their children, including “caning them like animals”, and sending them home without issuing leave out notes.

“Many of the pregnancies among students are the result of being send home all the time. We report him to the police but no action is taken against him,” said Winfred Nzomo, a parent at the school.

The head teacher declined to comment on the allegations but Kibwezi sub-county director of education Kennedy Machora said the complaints raised by the parents would be investigated.
