Kericho High mourns student killed during cultural event in Kipkelion

Dennis Kipkoech, a 17-year-old Kericho High School student, was allegedly attacked by his peers during a cultural event in Kipkelion.

Kericho High School is mourning the sudden death of one of its students. This comes barely a month after the school closed for the holidays.

According to Kericho MCA Bafina Serem, the 17-year-old Dennis Kipkoech from Imbaragai, Kunyak Ward in Kipkelion, was brutally attacked and hit on the head by his peers during a cultural event known as Tuumin.

Serem said Kipkoech was assaulted after he tried to block a group of boys from eloping with his school-going cousins who were in his company.

“I urge parents and our young people to enjoy festivities and cultural events responsibly to avoid such tragedies,” Serem stated.

His sudden death is not only a blow to the school but also to the family, who recently buried their father. Kipkoech was a bright student, as evidenced by his school records, and was described as a disciplined boy who seemed destined to be a star in his family’s eyes.

“My sincere condolences to his family and the Imbaragai fraternity. We demand that stern action be taken against those responsible for his death,” she added.

The public joined her in condemning the unfortunate incident, calling on parents to discipline their children so they understand why right and wrong exist.
