Kaloleni Secondary students in Machakos hit by pothole-dodging prado

Two students from Kaloleni Secondary School in Mwala Sub-county, Machakos County, sustained serious injuries after a gruesome road accident along the Kithimani–Machakos road.

The students were riding a bicycle home from school when they were hit by a Toyota Prado near Kiuini, just a few metres from Bishop Ndingi Market.

The students were heading towards Mwala, while the vehicle was travelling in the opposite direction toward Kithimani.

According to eyewitnesses who spoke to Education News, the Prado driver appeared to lose control of the vehicle, resulting in the crash.

The two injured students were rushed to Mwala Level Four Hospital for emergency treatment.

“The students were from school heading towards Mwala, the driver of the vehicle heading to Kithimaniwas avoiding potholes when he swerved and hit the bicycle,” said the witness.

In a dramatic turn of events, the driver allegedly attempted to flee the scene but was pursued by members of the public and apprehended in Mumbuni.

He was later handed over to the police and taken to Mwala Police Station.

Residents expressed concern over the road’s poor state, citing numerous potholes that they say have contributed to several accidents in the area.

They called on relevant authorities to intervene and repair the road to prevent further tragedies.

“The road is in a deplorable state, and motorists should be very careful because the holes are big. We are calling upon our leaders to push for the repair of the road,” explained a resident.
