Kakamega Education Director moved over possible spat with local leaders

The Kakamega County Director of Education, Dickson Ogonya has been transferred to Kisumu in the latest changes of field officers under the Ministry of Education.

Ogonya has been deployed to the Nyanza Regional Director’s office for assignment of duties.

He will report to the current RDE, Nelson Sifuna.

Education News has established that Hellen Nyang’au who has been the Vihiga County Director of Education will take over from him.

On the other hand, immediate former Samburu CDE, David Koech now moves to Vihiga to replace Nyang’au. It was not clear at press time who will take over from Koech in Samburu.

While the reasons for Ogonya’s transfer were not immediately clear, speculations have been rife in the last month that Ogonyo was getting into bad books with some local leaders over his alleged handling of the controversial Sacret Heart Mukumu Girls saga which dominated the public space for quite some time.

Kakamega Senator, Boni Khalwale had accused Ogonya and then school Principal, Frida Ndolo of failing to take prompt and appropriate action to contain the outbreak of disease at the premier institution which led to several students and a teacher’s deaths.

Ogonyo is a career educationist who has served with the Ministry of Education ranks for many years and was at one time the Turkana South District Education Officer.
