Kabete National Polytechnic has launched the German Language TVET Trainers Capacity Building and Examiner Qualification Programme.
The programme, spearheaded by Kabete in partnership with Independent Language Examinations for Germany, Austria and Switzerland (inLEGAS) Ltd, is set to enhance trainer capacity, strengthen the credibility of language assessments, and broaden access to internationally recognised certification pathways within the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) sector.
The initiative aims to improve German language proficiency, foster international collaboration, and equip learners with the skills and qualifications required to pursue employment opportunities in the global job market.
Kabete expresses readiness
Speaking during the launch, Kabete National Polytechnic Principal Dr. Patrick Muchemi assured stakeholders that the institution is well prepared for the rollout.
“As Kabete National Polytechnic, we are very prepared for the exercise. We have a class where we train German. We also have a considerable number of trainers who are qualified in the German language,” said Dr. Muchemi.
TVET training must focus on outcomes
TVET Principal Secretary Dr. Esther Muoria, who attended the event, emphasized that TVET institutions must train for “outcomes, not outputs.”
She stated that the true measure of training is not the sheer number of graduates produced, but the competence, practical skills, and workplace readiness that enable them to be absorbed into both local and global industries.
German language key to overseas jobs
Dr. Muoria noted that proficiency in German is a key requirement for young Kenyans seeking employment opportunities in Germany, as it facilitates communication and eases integration into the country.
“One of the requirements for our youth to be able to work in Germany is that they learn the German language for communication and also ease of entry into Germany,” said Dr. Muoria.
She emphasized that the government has stepped in to ensure young Kenyans are adequately trained in German in preparation for jobs secured under the bilateral agreement.
Partnership applauded
The Principal Secretary commended inLEGAS Ltd and Kabete National Polytechnic for their collaboration and commitment to advancing foreign language training within the TVET sector, noting that such partnerships are critical in aligning local skills development with emerging global labour market opportunities.
