Shortly after the National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA) cautioned schools against illegal drug tests, an aspirant for Kitutu Chache North Member of Parliament position Mr. Richard Mwebi has suggested that Alco-blow should be introduced in schools.
He stated that schools across the country should acquire these gadgets to detect students indulging in alcohol and drug abuse saying the vices were suspected to be the cause of school unrest leading to burning of schools.
In a statement last Thursday NACADA CEO Victor Okioma stated that drug testing was not the solution to indiscipline in schools and should only be used as part of other interventions.
Mwebi who was addressing mourners in Marani ward during the burial of Mama Patricia Gesare bichage said most students have proved to be taking alcohol and smoking bang and it was high time the government came up with such measures as mentioned to curb the depravity.
He also called upon the Ministry of Health to help schools in checking blood samples on weekly basis so as to detect on drug abuse.
The politician speculated that school fires could also be caused by local villagers who fail to secure employment and tenders in the surrounding schools.
He also accused some teachers for inciting students into riots in a way to undermine school principals.
