In the highly competitive world of secondary school football, success is often measured by trophies, titles and national appearances. Yet behind every successful team is a visionary coach whose discipline, commitment and tactical acumen inspire players to achieve greatness.
For Kakamega School’s Green Commandos, that man is Coach Enock Lucheveleli, popularly known as Coach Luche.
Over the years, Coach Luche has quietly established himself as one of Western Kenya’s most promising school football tacticians.
His journey has been defined by patience, resilience and an unwavering commitment to developing young football talent.
Before joining Kakamega School, Luche spent more than a decade at Lugusi Boys High School, serving the institution in various capacities while coaching the football team for eight years.
During his tenure, he transformed Lugusi Boys into a competitive side, guiding The Thunders to the county semi-finals despite limited resources.
A new chapter at Kakamega
In 2024, Luche accepted a new challenge by joining Kakamega School, one of Kenya’s most successful football institutions.
With expectations running high, he immediately began rebuilding the Green Commandos.
His impact became evident in 2025 when Kakamega School returned to county title contention, reaching the county semi-finals before narrowly losing to perennial rivals Musingu High School in a penalty shootout.
Although the campaign ended in disappointment, many observers recognised the emergence of a stronger and more competitive team.
Western champions
The 2026 season confirmed that progress.
Under Luche’s leadership, Kakamega School enjoyed one of its finest campaigns in recent years, advancing to the Western Region final in Bungoma County.
The Green Commandos produced one of the tournament’s biggest moments by defeating Musingu High School 2-0 after extra time following a goalless draw at Kanduyi Stadium.
The victory symbolised Kakamega School’s resurgence and highlighted Luche’s emphasis on discipline, tactical organisation and teamwork.
Luche’s growing reputation has reportedly attracted interest from several leading school football programmes, including Shanderema Boys High School, Solidarity Boys High School and St. Peter’s Mumias Boys High School.
