Grief engulfs Eldoret Poly as student dies under unclear circumstances

A cloud of sorrow hangs over the Eldoret National Polytechnic following the tragic death of one of its students, whose body was discovered early Monday morning under mysterious circumstances.

The lifeless body was found by early risers along the . According to witnesses, the student was quickly identified by peers, and notably, his phone, backpack, and books were found untouched—raising questions about the motive, as no valuables were stolen.

While insecurity remains a growing concern in the area, fellow students say this incident stands out due to its brutality and the fact that it does not appear to be a typical robbery.

“This is not just another mugging. Ronnie’s life was taken, yet nothing was stolen. It’s heartbreaking,” said one of his classmates.

Several students expressed frustration with ongoing insecurity, particularly in the Cherunya area, where many of them reside. One student remarked, “Cherunya is a no-go zone once it gets dark. Muggings happen every hour. It’s sad that police rarely do anything. Pole sana Ronnie. May justice prevail.”

Police officers from Langas Police station took the body to Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary.

Investigations are underway as the institution considers its next steps and students continue to call for urgent and sustained action to improve their safety.
