A dark gloomy cloud hovered Kamasia Secondary School in Marakwet West the third day after schools reopened following the murder of a Form Three student.
Varsity Kipchumba’s lifeless body was found in a pool of blood in a thicket a few kilometers from the school.
According to Joseph Cheboi, the girl’s uncle, Kipchumba was raped and later murdered.
“We found her body in a chilling situation. Her body was brutally injured. Upon examining her body, we discovered that she sustained machete injuries on the left side of the head. She was also raped by her assailants,” said Cheboi.
Speaking during the burial of the girl, leaders condemned the heinous murder of the student describing it as gender-based violence meted upon an innocent girl.
Led by Deputy Governor Wesley Rotich, the leaders called upon the police to expedite the investigation into the killing. Rotich said it was unfortunate that a young soul was lost brutally.
The DG, however, urged students to stay away from illicit love relationships which on many occasions have led to untimely deaths.
