A Grade Three pupil from Unoa Comprehensive School in Makueni County has drowned while swimming with his peers in Kamunyolo River.
According to Makueni County Red Cross Disaster Officer James Kimweli, the nine-year-old boy drowned on Thursday after he and fellow pupils went swimming in the river at Malawi area.
“Thursday, June 11, 2026 at 0958hrs, the county emergency team received a distress call reporting a drowning case at Malawi along Kamunyolo River,” said Kimweli.
Emergency response teams rushed to the scene and retrieved the body of the minor. The body was later handed over to police for further investigation.
Authorities are expected to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
