Gov’t urged to address funding challenges in sports

By Musyoka Kaleti

Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) Eastern region Secretary Elijah Kiarie has called upon the government to funds sports in schools.

Speaking at Kangaru School in Embu county during Eastern Region ball games, Kiarie said that some schools do not engage in sports due to financial challenges.

“Streamlining funding in secondary schools is the only remedy to challenges facing sports,” said Kiarie.

He noted that in Eastern Region, there are over 1,800 students who are participating in the games and that many did not make it since some schools were unable to cater for bills.

He noted that through games, students are exposed to activities out of class to break monotony.

Urbanas Kituu, who is the hockey coach at Makueni Girls, lauded the government for the resumption of games which students were eagerly waiting for.

“We are so happy about the resumption of games,” noted Kitui.
