Former Sotik MP Dominic Koskei has condemned the killing of Lalagin Secondary School teacher Martina Chepkemoi Rutto, calling for swift investigations and justice for her family.
Koskei said the killing had plunged Rutto’s family, friends and relatives into deep shock, pain and despair, describing the incident as a horrific and senseless act of violence. Speaking after joining the bereaved family at Kapkures in Kipsonoi Ward to convey his condolences, Koskei said he stood with the family as they struggled to come to terms with the loss of their loved one. He expressed his heartfelt sympathy to the family and urged them to remain strong during the difficult period of mourning.
Koskei strongly condemned what he described as an unacceptable act of gender-based violence, stressing that no family should have to endure the pain caused by such violence. “I condemn the horrific crime and senseless act of Gender-Based Violence,” Koskei said, calling on the government to expedite investigations into the killing. He urged security agencies to pursue all leads and ensure that those responsible are identified, arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law.

Koskei said justice for Rutto and her family would be an important step in addressing the circumstances surrounding her death and ensuring that similar incidents do not go unchecked. The former legislator also appealed for concerted efforts by the government, communities and other stakeholders to confront gender-based violence and protect women from violence and abuse.
Rutto’s death has continued to attract concern among residents, with calls growing for authorities to establish what happened and bring the perpetrators to justice. The family is now mourning the teacher as investigations into the circumstances surrounding her death continue.
