The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has extended the deadline for schools to upload candidates’ School-Based Assessment (SBA) and project scores for the 2026 Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) and Kenya Junior School Education Assessment (KJSEA).
In a notice to heads of institutions, the council said the new deadline for uploading the scores is September 30, 2026, giving schools additional time to complete the exercise. KNEC urged heads of institutions to take advantage of the extension and ensure that all required assessment and project scores for eligible candidates are uploaded within the revised timeline. The council also directed schools to indicate “AB” for candidates who were absent during the relevant assessment or project activities.
The latest directive is expected to provide schools that had not completed the online submission process with additional time to finalise their records and avoid leaving candidates’ assessment information incomplete. The SBA and project scores form part of the continuous assessment process under the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC), which places emphasis on learners’ performance across different stages of basic education.

KNEC has continued to rely on digital platforms for the capture and management of assessment data as the country transitions from the former examination-focused system to competency-based assessment. Schools have therefore been advised to verify the accuracy and completeness of the information before submitting the scores.
The council said the extension should be used to ensure that all 2026 KPSEA and KJSEA candidates have their required scores uploaded, while absent candidates are appropriately captured using the prescribed “AB” status. The September 30 deadline will be the final date for schools to complete the exercise under the latest extension issued by KNEC.
