A Form Four student from Kirwa Secondary School in Kisii County died mysteriously after a drinking spree at Nyanturago Market.

The body of 18- year-old Brian Openda was found dumped behind a shop on the morning of Friday, 16th September.

According to his grandmother Eunice Kerubo, Openda left home in the evening after driving their cows into the shed but never returned.

“We became impatient regarding his return and made a follow up to the market only to find his cold still body,” mourned the grandmother.

Police investigations revealed that the the body’s hands were twisted while it bore a deep cut on the back.

“It seems that the boy was murdered after some struggle with his attacker(s) during the night,” observed an officer.

He said that the boy was an orphan from Jogoo area in the outskirts of Kisii town but had found refuge at his maternal grandmother’s home after the death of his  parents.

The bereaved grandmother disclosed that the boy had started returning home drunk in the evenings.

“He came back drunk one evening and forgot to eat until the following morning,” she said.

She blamed the bad company of boys whom the deceased joined before going astray.

Following the death, Keumbu Division  Assistant County Commissioner Joshua Muthoka ordered a crackdown and closure of all unlicensed bars in the town.

He asked the residents to volunteer information that may lead to the arrest of the school boy’s murderers.

Police from Keumbu Station transferred the body from the scene to Kisii Teaching And Referral Hospital Mortuary awaiting postmortem.
