A boys’ dormitory at Tarakwa High School in Mutarakwa ward, Bomet Central sub-county, was destroyed by fire in the early hours of Tuesday, June 2 morning, raising fresh concerns over safety in learning institutions
According to the Bomet county Department of Disaster Management, firefighters were alerted to the incident at approximately 5:20 a.m. and immediately responded to the distress call.
Upon arrival, the emergency team found a 22-bed wooden dormitory engulfed in flames.
Firefighters managed to contain and extinguish the blaze before it could spread to other buildings within the school compound.

Fortunately, all students occupying the dormitory had been safely evacuated and no injuries or fatalities were reported.
County disaster officials praised the swift response by both the school administration and emergency responders, noting that their actions helped prevent a major tragedy.
The cause of the fire remains unknown, with investigations already underway to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.
This comes just a few days after sixteen students lost their lives and several others suffered severe injuries after fire tragedy that gutted down a dormitory at Utumishi Girls Academy in Gildil, Nakuru County.
