Female Professor a Beacon of hope for Girls’ education in Mt. Elgon

When you hear the name Professor Alice Chesambu Ndiema in Mt. Elgon, in Bungoma County, what comes to your mind is the effort she is making toward encouraging girls to go to school and get educated.

Professor Alice Chesumbu Ndiema was born in Cheptais village in Mt. Elgon. She went to Toroso primary school for her early education.

Later she joined the prestigious Kibuk Girls Secondary School after her primary education

After her Form 4 level she joined Bukura Institute of Agriculture for her certificate course thereafter she went to Egerton College for her diploma course.

As bright as she was and a humble lady in the village she joined Egerton University for her 1st, 2nd, and Masters Degree Certificates.

Thereafter she was employed by the Kenya Agricultural Research Institute (KARI) where she worked for a period of 20 years as a social economist.

In giving back to society Prof. Chesambu joined Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology as a senior lecturer teaching students and urging them to implement new innovations they study at the university in their respective home areas.

Professor Chesumbu is not mean in her advice as she keeps on encouraging even boys to study hard and move higher and higher in education.

Through her efforts, many girls in Mt. Elgon have succeeded in life as most of them work in the government and private sectors.

“Professor Alice Ndiema Chesumbu is a case study in Mt. Elgon who should be emulated by all as she started her course from the certificate level and now she is a renowned professor in the republic of Kenya, “said Mr. Bernard Kimachas retired TSC West Pokot County Director.

Currently, Prof. Alice Ndiema Chesambu is the acting registrar, planning, research, and innovation at the Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology MMUST.
