Murang’a county government has issued Kshs 80 million to support 1000 needy students. This will bring to a total 3000 beneficiaries of the programme.
Speaking while issuing the scholarships at Ihura stadium, Murang’a Governor Mwangi Wa Iria said that his administration is coming up with a policy that will ensure the needy students will continue to get assistance even upon the expiry of his term next year.
The scholarship programme, dubbed Nyota Zetu, started in 2019 and ensures that annually 1000 learners from poor backgrounds get full scholarships from the county government.
The scholarship runs over the four years of secondary education.
Governor Wa Iria hailed the programme saying it gives a chance to students from poor families to realize their education goals.
