County Govt sets aside Sh350 million for bursaries

Kilifi county government has set a side sh 350 million for bursaries to enable bright, but needy  secondary school, colleges and University students in the region to pursue their education.

Speaking to Education News in her office in Kilifi town recently, Kilifi County Executive Committee Member for Education, Ms. Clara Chonga said they will disburse sh 175 million for the first phase of the bursary to students in secondary schools, colleges and Universities.

She further called on parents in the county to come forward and apply for bursaries for the school children to enable them pursue education in the country.

However, Ms. Chonga said that there will be no single bright student from poor background who will stay at home due to lack of school fees in the county.

She also lamented that many parents in the county have not yet come to apply for bursaries for their school children.

”You are therefore duty bound in taking great care of your  children education”, she told parents in the county.

At the same time, the County Executive Committee Member for Education Ministry  assured county residents of 100 percent transition of students in secondary schools, Colleges and Universities respectively.

She, however asked parents in the county to coopewrate fully and take all their school age going children to school without fail.

“The county’s rapid development entirely depends on educated people who actually be charged with the responsibility of designing, planning and implementing community development projects in the county.

However, she cautioned that parents who will refuse to take their children to school will immediately be arrested and charged ( prosecuted ) without further notice.

She also urged education stakeholders in the region to work as a team and return back to school all young girls who dropped out of school due to early pregnancies.

“The trend would therefore enhance education levels in the county”, she noted.
