A centre manager for KCPE and KPSEA examinations in Tharaka Nithi County collapsed and died shortly after returning examinations answer scripts to the sub-county director of education (SCDE).
Humphrey Njeru Kiria, 40, the head teacher of Ntakani Primary School, died while he was being attended to at Muthambi Health Centre.
The deceased is alleged to have been asthmatic and the attack was likely to have been caused by the current weather conditions.
Eastern Regional Police Commander Joseph Ole Napeiyan said Kiria’s death was reported to Ntumu Police Station in Muthambi Sub-county.
“It was reported by the area director of education that yesterday at around 6.30pm … the head teacher Ntakani Primary School suddenly collapsed and was rushed to nearby Muthambi Health Centre where he was diagnosed to have respiratory distress and became unconscious,” the police report stated.
Napeiyan said the official died during resuscitation at the facility at 5pm.
The body was moved to Chuka General Hospital mortuary for a postmortem analysis.
