Busia teacher dies after collapsing at Kolanya Girls during school reopening

  • Busia County is mourning the sudden death of Alice Kwamboka, a teacher at Nambale Urban Comprehensive School, who collapsed and died on Friday while accompanying her daughter to Kolanya Girls National School as schools reopened after the midterm break.
  • According to reports, Kwamboka had escorted her daughter back to school when she reportedly complained of feeling unwell and excused herself to rest.

The education fraternity in Busia County is mourning the sudden death of Alice Kwamboka, a teacher at Nambale Urban Comprehensive School, who collapsed and died on Friday while accompanying her daughter to Kolanya Girls National School as schools reopened after the midterm break.

According to reports, Kwamboka had escorted her daughter back to school when she reportedly complained of feeling unwell and excused herself to rest.

She later collapsed in one of the school’s toilets. Efforts to save her were unsuccessful, and she was pronounced dead, leaving her family, colleagues, students and friends in shock.

Kwamboka was widely respected for her dedication to teaching and mentorship, having served in several schools across Busia County, particularly in Nambale Sub-county.

Her sudden death has triggered an outpouring of grief across the county, with fellow teachers, education stakeholders, leaders and members of the public sending messages of condolence to her family and praying for strength during the difficult period.

The cause of her death has not been officially established. Authorities are expected to release further details after completing the necessary investigations.

Her body was moved to a mortuary pending a post-mortem examination.
