Parents in Molo Sub-County, Nakuru County have been urged to work closely with school heads to improve education standards and strengthen discipline in schools.

Speaking during the prize-giving ceremony at Elburgon DEB Senior School, Molo Sub-County Director of Education Ruth Kamau said strong collaboration between parents and school administrators is essential for improving learners’ academic performance.

Kamau noted that parents play a critical role in nurturing discipline and instilling values that enable learners to excel academically.

“It is the responsibility of parents to engage their children regularly and help them maintain high standards of discipline. Good discipline creates an environment where learners can concentrate on their studies and achieve academic excellence,” she said.

She further encouraged parents to safeguard the reputation of schools attended by their children and to resolve any concerns through dialogue with school management rather than confrontation.

Kamau cited an incident at a school in Molo Sub-County where students reportedly refused to eat githeri, demanding a different diet despite consuming the same meal at home.

“It is worrying that some students refuse to eat githeri in school yet they eat it comfortably at home. Such behaviour is a sign of indiscipline and should be addressed appropriately,” she said.

The education director reaffirmed the Ministry of Education’s commitment to fostering cooperation among students, teachers, parents and Boards of Management (BOM) to ensure smooth implementation of school programmes.

“The Ministry of Education will not tolerate any form of indiscipline in our schools. Students are in school to learn, teachers to teach, parents to support the institutions, and school administrations to ensure programmes are implemented in line with ministry policies,” Kamau said.

She also warned learners against involvement in drug and substance abuse, saying those found in possession of illegal drugs within school premises would face legal action.

Kamau further urged school heads to handle students with care and professionalism, reminding them that learners are children whose rights are protected under the Constitution.

The prize-giving ceremony brought together education stakeholders, school administrators, parents and other invited guests to celebrate students’ academic achievements while discussing ways of improving education standards in the sub-county.
