Cardinal Otunga Girls will host a 3x3 basketball tournament in Bungoma on May 9, 2026, showcasing emerging school talent.

The stage is set for an electrifying basketball spectacle as Cardinal Otunga Girls National School prepares to host a highly anticipated 3×3 tournament on May 9, 2026, bringing together some of the region’s most promising young talents.

The one-day event, scheduled to tip off at 8:00 a.m. at the school’s grounds along Kanduyi–Chwele Road, will feature both boys’ and girls’ teams in a format that has rapidly gained popularity across the country. With a registration fee of KSh 1,000 per team, the tournament is expected to attract a competitive field drawn from secondary schools and emerging grassroots programs.

3×3 basketball, known for its high tempo, physical intensity, and emphasis on quick decision-making, has become a favourite among young players seeking to sharpen their skills. Unlike the traditional five-a-side game, the half-court format demands agility, precision, and teamwork—qualities that are expected to be on full display throughout the competition.

The Bungoma showdown comes at a time when school-based sports continue to play a crucial role in nurturing talent and providing pathways for athletes to advance to national and international levels. Events like this not only provide exposure but also foster an environment in which discipline, resilience, and sportsmanship are cultivated.

Cardinal Otunga Girls’ National School has steadily built a reputation as a dominant force in both academic and co-curricular spheres. Its growing prominence in sports reflects a broader commitment to holistic education, where excellence is pursued both in the classroom and on the field of play.

The tournament is also expected to boost basketball’s profile in Western Kenya, a region increasingly recognised for producing top-tier talent. With scouts, coaches, and enthusiasts likely to be in attendance, players will have a valuable opportunity to showcase their abilities on a competitive stage.

Senior Principal Christine Sifuna has overseen notable growth at the institution, with the school emerging as a consistent performer across co-curricular disciplines. The decision to host a 3×3 tournament aligns with ongoing efforts to expand sporting opportunities and strengthen the school’s footprint in national competitions.

As anticipation builds, teams are intensifying preparations, fine-tuning their tactics ahead of what promises to be a fiercely contested event. The compact nature of 3×3 basketball ensures non-stop action, with games often decided by narrow margins and moments of individual brilliance.

By the time the final whistle blows, Bungoma is expected to have witnessed not just a tournament, but a celebration of youth talent, ambition, and the unifying power of sport. For many of the participating players, the competition could mark the beginning of a journey toward greater achievements in basketball.
