Boy hospitalized after 107 cane strokes by teacher
Boy hospitalized and is fighting for his life after he was allegedly beaten by his teacher for allegedly being careless.
According to the Uncle, the 9-year old Joseph Ong’era in Grade Four was assaulted Monday at Riang’ombe Boarding Primary School.
He said that he received information from one of the teachers through telephone call about the ailing boy.
“I travelled from Nairobi to the school and found the boy in critical condition. I took him to hospital for treatment,” he said.
The boy is hospitalized in Nyamira County Referral Hospital
According to Nyamira County Hospital medical report, the boy suffered from a deep wound on his behind after several beatings.
“He will undergo many stitches to enable him to sit properly,” said the medical officer.
The head teacher of the school Mrs. Isabellah Kumenda confirmed that the boy was from her school but denied knowledge of the assault.
“I was sick at home but when I reported to school, I was informed about the incident which I am currently investigating,” she said.
The parents asked the police and the Ministry of Education to move with speed to arrest the alleged teacher to face the law in court.
Efforts to reach Nyamira County Director of Education, Borniface Ouko for comment were futile as he could not respond to calls.
The alleged beating of minor from Riang’ombe Primary School in Borabu Sub county is the third reported incident of child bullying in the county within a period of three months
Residents have called the human rights organizations to step in and fight for the rights of children in the region.
