PS Bitok in China to strengthen digital learning partnership with Huawei

Principal Secretary for Basic Education, Prof. Julius Bitok has visited the Huawei Headquarters in Shenzhen, China, to engage with the company’s leadership on bolstering collaboration in digital learning infrastructure, connectivity, and teacher-student capacity building.

The discussions aim to further the Government of Kenya’s multi-year digital transformation program, designed to integrate technology into teaching and learning across the nation.

The Kenyan government, through the State Department for Basic Education and the ICT Authority (ICTA) continue to enhance the implementation of its nationwide Digital Literacy Programme (DLP).

This initiative is a core component of Kenya’s Vision 2030 and the Digital Master Plan (2022–2032), which seeks to position the country as a competitive digital economy.

In his visit, Prof. Bitok reaffirmed the Kenyan government’s commitment to deepening partnerships with global leaders like Huawei, emphasizing the importance of equipping Kenyan learners with critical digital skills needed for the future workforce.

“Through partnerships like these, we are working to ensure that both teachers and students have access to the tools and skills necessary to thrive in a digital world,” he said.

Huawei, a global leader in information and communications technology (ICT) infrastructure, 5G technology, and smart devices, is a key partner in the digital education space. With operations in over 170 countries, the company has been instrumental in supporting Kenya’s digital education initiatives.

Accompanying Prof. Bitok during the visit were Peter Zhang, President of Huawei’s Education Solutions Department, Samuel Chen, Huawei Kenya’s Country Manager, and Jerry Wang, Deputy Country Manager for Huawei Kenya.

The collaboration with Huawei will continue to enhance Kenya’s Digital Literacy Programme, ensuring that students and educators are equipped with cutting-edge technology to facilitate improved learning experiences.
