- Nominators have been given until August 26, 2026, to submit nominations for the 2026 awards.
The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has opened nominations for teachers to be considered for various awards during the 2026 World Teachers’ Day celebrations.
The initiative, dubbed the World Teachers’ Day Rewards and Recognition Framework 2026, seeks to identify, recognise and celebrate teachers and institutional administrators who have made outstanding contributions to teaching and learning. According to the call for nominations, the awards will promote excellence, innovation, inclusivity, resilience, leadership and professional commitment across all levels of education, while also recognising measurable contributions and encouraging the adoption of effective practices in learning institutions.
The commission said nominations are open to registered teachers currently in service as well as retired teachers who have made demonstrable contributions to teaching and learning. Eligible nominees may come from recognised public, private and international learning institutions, including primary schools, junior schools, secondary and senior schools, as well as Teacher Training Colleges.

To qualify, nominees must be registered teachers who are serving or have served in a recognised learning institution in Kenya, and must have been directly responsible for the achievement, initiative, innovation, leadership role or contribution for which they are nominated. Nominees are required to demonstrate contributions beyond their routine duties and provide verifiable evidence of their impact, which may include institutional records, learner outcomes, testimonials, awards, reports, certificates, photographs, publications and other relevant documentation. Teachers can be nominated in a maximum of two award categories, provided they have made strong and relevant contributions in the respective areas.
One of the categories outlined in the framework is the Lifetime Achievement Award, which seeks to honour veteran educators who have made long-term and transformative contributions to education through sustained dedication, mentorship, leadership, institutional development and legacy-building. To qualify, a nominee must have at least 20 years of teaching experience and be either a serving or retired teacher.

The TSC said the recognition comes against the backdrop of the growing contribution of Kenyan teachers to national development through education, innovation, mentorship, inclusion, talent development and improvements in teaching and learning. The deadline for submission of nominations is August 26, 2026, and teachers, institutions and other eligible nominators are expected to submit their nominations before the deadline for consideration under the 2026 World Teachers’ Day awards.
