Dr. Alice Kande has been appointed Acting Director General of the Kenya National Qualifications Authority (KNQA) following the exit of Dr. Juma Mukhwana who is now the Principal Secretary in the State Department for Industry.
The announcement was made by KNQA Council Chairperson CPA Rosemary Njogu after chairing a Special Council Meeting.
“We have confidence in her leadership and hope she will steer the organization well as we embark on recruitment of a substantive Director General,” said CPA Njogu.
Dr. Kande promised to work together with all stakeholders in order to realize KNQA’s mandate.
“I am humbled by this opportunity that has been given to me and hope to continue working with all stakeholders in the education sector and development partners,” she said.
Before the appointment, Dr. Kande served as Deputy Director in charge of Planning, Research, Outreach and Policy at the authority.
She holds a Doctorate degree in Business Administration (Strategic Management) from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology, a Master’s in Business Administration and Bachelor of Education both from Kenyatta University.
Dr. Kande is a member of the Kenya Institute of Management and Academy of International Business – SSA Chapter. Prior to joining KNQA, she was a Senior Research Officer at the Commission for University Education (CUE). She has also previously taught at Riara University School of Business and Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology.
Dr. Mukhwana took the reins if the authority on August 6, 2018 and networked with various stakeholders to digitize its systems; putting it on the Kenyan, regional and international map through its website and social media platforms.
He also spearheaded automation of services through software they developed and procured over time including; National Qualifications Information Management System (NAQMIS); Kenya Recognition, Equation and Verification Portal (KNREV); Kenya National Learners Record Database (KNLRD); Recognition of Prior Learning Information Management System (RPLISM); and the KNQA recruitment portal.
