Agoro Sare clinch Nyanza Basketball title after narrow win over St. Mary’s Yala

Agoro Sare National School are the reigning champions of Nyanza basketball after edging out St. Mary’s Yala 60–58 in a nail-biting boys’ final played at Maseno School.

Representing Homa Bay County, Agoro Sare will now carry the region’s flag at the National Secondary Schools Term One Games in Kisumu.

The clash between Agoro Sare and St. Mary’s Yala lived up to its billing, with both sides trading baskets in a tense encounter that kept fans on their feet until the final whistle. Agoro Sare held their nerve in the dying minutes to secure victory by just two points, denying Yala a chance to reclaim the crown.

This is the third time the Agoro Sare basketball team is making an appearance at the National stage after making their maiden appearance in the year 2019.

Elsewhere, Kisumu Day stamped their authority in hockey, dominating the competition to clinch the regional title. St. Mary’s Yala also enjoyed success in other disciplines, winning the boys’ handball championship against Kisii School before completing a double with a narrow 9–6 triumph over the same opponents in rugby 15s.

In the girls’ contests, Nyakach Girls emerged victorious in handball, while Ngiya Girls claimed the hockey crown.

Elsewhere, Kajiado’s Laiser Hill Academy continued its dominance in Rift Valley basketball, defeating St. Joseph’s Kitale 87–70 in the regional finals.

The win secured Laiser Hill’s ticket to the national stage, where they will represent Rift Valley in the boys’ basketball category.
