Asumbi Girls and Agoro Sare basketball teams have been handed a one-year ban from Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) competitions in a move that has shaken Nyanza Region’s school sports scene.
The disciplinary action means the two schools will not participate in any KSSSA-sanctioned events for the next year.
However, both institutions have been granted the opportunity to appeal the verdict in accordance with KSSSA regulations.
Although officials did not immediately release detailed reasons for the suspension, the ruling has significantly altered the region’s representation ahead of the 2026 KSSSA National Term One Games.
Following the decision, St. Mary’s Yala and Barchando Secondary School have been cleared to fly Nyanza Region’s flag at the national championships.
